Positivism

One time someone told me that I had a sallow skin tone, and I was actually self conscious about it for a while because of the comment. If you don't know, sallow means a sickly yellow color; It's not used for flattery. It was 3 years later when I found out that my skin tone was actual neutral, and that meant that I could get away with a wider array of colors. I just felt like going back in time and replying to her comment, "No my skin tone is neutral and it's beautiful."
What I'm trying to say is, Know that what negative things people are saying about you most likely aren't true. There's a lot of things I've been told about my appearance that were really hurtful over the years, and I'm coming to find out that they aren't even remotely true and/or were just said with the intention of hurting me.
People need to start paying closer attention to what they say and how they treat people. Ideally you shouldn't care about what people say about you, but not all of us have reached that ability. Also, ideally no one should feel the need to say hurtful things about others' appearances.
It breaks my heart that people, led by their own insecurities and shortcomings, can be as mean as they are. No one likes being insulted and treated poorly, no one. So why do people do it? Especially about appearances. You would have to be pretty dense to believe that someone's appearance dictates anything. You would have to be dense and shallow to not come up with anything intelligible to say and so you choose appearance to criticize. It's not going to make you feel better or change your life for the better. Treating someone poorly and noting a physical "flaw" of theirs is not going to magically better your insecurities or enrich your life.
My roommate last semester and her friends would sit around and talk about nothing else besides other females' appearances. As if these human beings had nothing else going for them besides their looks. As if the only purpose in life is to be attractive and be seen as attractive. Eventually I would put on headphones every time she had company so I wouldn't have to be surrounded by constant negativity towards something so petty as looks.
It's so easy to displace your own issues onto other people instead of trying to fix them yourself. Everyone has weaknesses they are dealing with and don't need other people making them worse with negative comments about them. Everyone has beauty in them. It's not hard to find it.
Start trying to focus on positive things that you like about a person/their appearance/what they're wearing and genuinely complement at least one person a day. If people you hang around constantly rag on other people and their appearances, maybe you should reconsider who you are surrounding yourself with or try and change the discussion to a more positive subject. You'll start noticing yourself feeling better and more positive as well as other people. It's a win-win.

Sorry for the heavy text, I'm just fed up with this negative body image nonsense. That's exactly what it is, nonsense. On a lighter note, here's a picture of Tiger trying to get some early morning lovins and my outfit I wore the other day.

My friend Dillon told me this outfit reminded him of The Sound of Music, haha. I absolutely love that movie/musical so it was definitely the right kind of complement for me. Oh, and if you're wondering why I'm wearing a warmer weather outfit, it's been in the 70's the past 3 days! Goodness me, I need to remember to go get a haircut before I get back to Murfreesboro. I'm looking kind of shaggy and my hair isn't looking as lustrous as I'd like. I hope everyone is having a great weekend though!

Hidden Treasures

I decided to take a few photos around Patrick's house. The place has some really cool treasures that look like they haven't been moved/dusted in decades. I'd love to take a week to search every corner of this house and see what all I could find. As it turns out, I will have to buy a new phone which means I'm going to try to find someone who has an old phone they don't mind letting me use until...whenever I guess. I am not very happy about that, but it is what it is. I was able to sign up for the classes I wanted which alleviates some stress. Hopefully this weekend will be good to me.

These vintage high-waisted shorts are from Patrick's mom. They were originally trousers, but they were too short so I decided to make them into shorts. The big comfy man sweater is a thrift find that I'm glad I forked out all of $2 to buy. These boots have been a staple for me the past 2 months and I have a soft spot for them even if they are big and clumsy at times.

In hind sight, I probably should have worn a long necklace to break up the sea of oatmeal that is my large sweater, but I'll keep that in mind next time I wear it. I can't believe school starts back already, I'm excited to get back into the swing of things, but I hate being so far away from everyone. I'll just have to really appreciate the last few days I have here in SC and steal Patrick away.

Back to School

School will be starting up again so very soon, and I started thinking about what I'd like to wear. Tights and shorts have kind of been my main squeeze this winter, and I feel like continuing the trend with my back to school outfit. I love these tights from Mod Cloth as well as these adorable blue heels. I thought these brown houndstooth shorts went too perfectly with the tights and pink and lace sweater. I wish so hard that I could reach through the screen and grab these items, but I can't and so I'll try to recreate the outfit with things I already have!

Here's my outfit from today in Patrick's lovely bathroom, haha. At least the lighting is brighter than in the playroom. As you can see, this house is just old and falling apart and you may spot a little fishy sticker. Anyways! I wore the same tights as I did yesterday, and it's only because I love them soooooooo much. For added warmth I put on these cute knee high socks, and they really do work to keep your legs toasty.

This week has been quite the interesting week. I found out I have this nasty RSV virus going around, my headlight went out and I immediately got pulled over for it, Every time I have tried to cash my checks something has prevented me from doing it, I dropped my phone in the toilet, and I have to fix my laptop and go to the DMV to get another proof of registration for my car since I threw it away. Ugh! It's safe to say that this is NOT my week. Oh well at least that means things can only start looking up from this point, and it'll feel so satisfactory to fix everything gradually. I hope everyone is having a better week than I!

The Cat's Pajamas

I'm absolutely exhausted, and I can't wait to lay my head down and go to sleep. Patrick and I went to Olive Garden today to celebrate his little sister's birthday. . It was my first time meeting his aunt, and I have to say I'm really impressed with how I wasn't nervous at all. Usually stuff like that gets me a good bit shaky and full of butterflies. Then we saw my family for a bit before he got back on cod:bo2, and I took some random pictures around the playroom.

I think it's really sweet that he has a picture of us up from DragonCon under his T.V. I also wanted to show you this little guy I got from the Biltmore! He's a chubby cheeked cream server, and I couldn't leave without him. He's one of the cutest things I have ever seen. He looks like he's saying, "You want some milk, mew?" Then I had to capture what I have been looking at nightly for the past month that I've been home: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. I love watching it. We've also been playing Minecraft and Soul Calibur V which made me a happy chica.

The outfit I wore today is definitely one of my favorites. I wish I had done my hair/makeup to match it and had a room that wasn't gross with terrible lighting, but I'm showing you it nonetheless. I got these awesome flesh colored, polka dot tights from my mom for Christmas, and they go so perfectly with my ballet pink skirt that I think they were made for each other. I also wore my trusty, black, comfy heels (the only heels I brought to SC with me). I just think this outfit is the cat's pajamas.

Tights: Kohls

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I'm off to go get some much needed shut eye.

New Year, New Adventures

Hello! It's a new year! So much had happened the last year that I'm surprised was crammed into one whole year. I've met so many amazing people and have had the opportunity to go to so many beautiful places. I've gained the most beautiful friends and lost some others, gained two adorable kittens and survived two semesters of school. I'm hopeful for what awaits me in this year and I can't wait to share it with you. You know the expression "New year, new me?" Well I can't say that I'm new, I'm rather the same as I've always been, and I'm glad for it. I'd rather just say, "New year, new adventures!"

Other fabulous ladies have been making posts about the highlights of their blog the past year, but my blog is a wee baby and so I only would have 4 months to choose from. I decided instead to just make a photo heavy outfit post! My outfit isn't anything too special, but it's my first time using my tripod and remote and so I went crazy. How did I make outfit posts before this?

Also I curled my hair which I NEVER do. I found some curlers from what looked like the 80's and went to town. I left them in for at most 15 minutes and this is how they turned out. Quite lovely if I do say so myself!

My mom got me these tights last Christmas and I love the pattern so much, but I don't wear them too often. I like to keep them fresh and new for me so it's like opening a new present every time I wear them. This beautiful berry colored sweater dress is from my Nana this past Christmas. The color and crocheted sleeves are what do it for me.

I told Patrick to take a picture of my shoe and he happily obliged, haha. These are my favorite heels at the moment. They are so comfortable that I never go through that whole conversation in my head: "Will I be standing a lot today? They're cute, but I can't wear them if I'm going to be on my feet a lot."

Hopefully the next outfit post I do won't be inside in a room with horrible lighting, haha. I have an amazing new camera, but I haven't figured out how to shoot in a peach room with one working tungsten light bulb. I hope everyone isn't grumbling too hard about having to go back to work. School doesn't start back till the 17th for me, but I'm already starting to get anxious.

Till next time,

Jess

Pea Green with Envy

Here are little snaps of the outfit I wore yesterday. I love these tights, because they sort of glow as you can see in the first picture. They were a Christmas gift from my mom and they match my chipped green nails. I just suck at keeping nail polish on. Our friend Dillon gave me those earrings, and they are my new favorites. The other match has a cardinal on a branch, and Patrick immediately noticed it and knew they were the perfect gift for me (Because of my insane love for birds). I also got the cutest Coach clutch from our friend Amelia which I'll have to photograph for you later. I decided to add in a few photos I took last year around my family's property to beef the post up a bit. We have this storage trailer with a lot of vintage and other random trinkets, and it was fun searching through all of it. Also making a cameo is Lily, Pete my horse, and an insanely good brownie I had.

I'm still getting over this mean sinus infection I have. One cool thing about being sick is I've been spoiled rotten and the antibiotics I'm taking say Lupin on the pills. It means bunny in french, and who doesn't love bunnies, but also it makes me think of Harry Potter's Professor Lupin. I can pretend these pills are filled with magic and werewolf hair. I hope everyone had a great week, I'm going to go get Main Moon for the second time this week and watch Patty play Halo.

Till next time,

Jess
