Naturally Inclined

Today was a natural day. I let my hair do whatever it wanted, left the makeup on the shelf and walked around barefoot. The temperature didn't get above 73 degrees, and the breeze felt heavenly. I walked down to go see our horse Pete and decided to take some pictures in my mother's beautiful garden. I'm not even mad anymore that it rained the whole winter, our Spring is one of the best ones we've had. Everything is green and healthy (except the little cactus outside which is all wrinkly from too much water) and the blooms are vivid.

I'm wearing my crop top that I made out of a table cloth, and my pink gingham shorts passed down to me from my dance teacher. I always get a lot of compliments on the top, and I love how it makes me feel (Confident and sexy, yet covered and comfy). The shorts are from the 80's, and I adore their slouchy fit that makes them so cute and so comfortable and I am OBSESSED with gingham. It's the greatest pattern there is as far as I am concerned. I had quite the night as my silly kitties kept me awake with their shenanigans, but I'll have to write about that in another post. I also had a little miff with Allen. It's funny how you can still have little tiffs with people who you find absolutely perfect. Welp! I have to go take my mother to get her car from the shop! I hope everyone's week has been looking as beautiful as mine.

Sailor Sunday

It was yet another beautifully sunny day in South Carolina. We all sat inside and watched movies for Mother's Day. I have decided to postpone my mother's day post to tomorrow since I'm all tuckered out and want to give it justice. I have actually been really tired the past couple of days, and I am not really sure what my hormones are doing. I've also gained a good 7 pounds, but I am not sure if that's hormone related or all of the Dairy Queen Allen and I have been consuming (It's probably the Dairy Queen, but my hormones do have me a bloated mess which doesn't help). I have terrible hormones that never want to stay balanced for longer than a year and cause my body to go out of whack ( Like gain and lose 20 pounds whenever it so chooses, acne flair ups, extreme insomnia or excessive sleeping). Either way I'm going to try and eat better and exercise more. Allen and I think it all went to my booty anyways. Speaking of Allen, the poor dear is probably tired of hearing me talk about it (Sorry love!).

I LOVE this outfit. I made the shirt out of a 1980's dress I found in a friend's mother's closet. I also want to make a skirt out of the bottom of the dress, but I need a zipper and the know how first. The 1970's high waist jean shorts are my fantastic Goodwill find with Allen in February. They are definitely one of my favorite articles of clothing, and if I don't start trying to balance my hormones and eat well I'm going to grow out of them (They are already a good bit tighter than they were when I first got them)! The flower brooch, that matches perfectly with the blue stripes, is my great-grandmother's from the 40's. Since I've been home I've collected other jewelry and slips that were my great-grandmother's that I had left behind at my parent's house and I'm excited to bring them back with me to Murfreesboro.

Nothing Could Be Finer

There's a reason Al Jolson and Dean Martin sang, "Nothin could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning." It's sunny and hot and beautiful.  With all of the lush greenery and flowers blooming it is just like being in paradise. I'm back at my parent's house in South Carolina for the next 2 weeks until Summer classes start up (Summer isn't technically until June 21, but we call it Summer classes just because most of the classes fall in the Summer solstice). I'm also having the chance to take photos outside which I need more practice doing anyways. I'm such a recluse that all of my outfit photos are inside! Haha! I can't help that I'm shy. I'm having to work around a fat grey and white cat to make this post as well. Lilly has not left my side today except to eat and then she jumps right back up on my stomach. I'm glad to know she missed me as much as I missed her. Sheik, my shy baby who gets scared easily, yells at me to come pet her so I know she missed me too.

This little 80's sun-suit is one of my favorite purchases off of Etsy. I got it last year, and I feel magical in it. I love the whimsical polka dots and the open slit at the front that shows off my little white shorts from the 60's that I got at the antique shop in downtown Murfreesboro. I felt like frolicking around in a sunflower field, but I am not exactly sure where one is, haha. I'm really happy with how the photos turned out, and I can't wait to take more photos outside over the course of the next two weeks! Summer break is starting out wonderfully (except for missing Allen something awful, but I'll whine about that another time).

Falling Into Place

I'm sitting here in tears at how wonderfully everything is coming together.
I was so nervous about making candidacy for my highly competitive program, and about what I was going to do with my summer, but as of today everything is planned, and I am calm. I'll have a full load of Summer classes to up my GPA and increase my chances of making it into the Audio Production program. That settles the uneasiness I felt about what I am to do all Summer. I also found out that if I do not make candidacy, I do not lose my scholarship (It's a scholarship that allows me to pay in state tuition at MTSU) as previously thought. I could apply for candidacy and be rejected 100 times and not lose my scholarship! I repeat, I WILL NOT LOSE MY SCHOLARSHIP! PHEEEEEEEEEW! I almost hugged my adviser.

Some icing on the cake: My biology credit eventually transferred from the community college I went to, and I don't have to take anymore biology classes. SAWEEEET! No more prerequisites!

When I first brought them home. They were already spoiled from the get go.
Lilly is a sock thief. She also likes to spread them all over the place.

BIG IMPORTANT NEWS! I get my kitties, Lilly and Sheik, back. My apartment didn't allow pets last year, but now they allow pets so I can live with my babies again!!! I'm looking at photos of them, and that's probably definitely the reason for the tears. I am so happy. I am so, so happy. I'm probably going to be one of those moms that cries a little too hard when they drop their kids off at college and constantly sends them care packages. Sorry future kids.

This is all just a really important life reminder for me that things do eventually work themselves out. There may be months of late nights and failures and some nights full of ice cream and snotty tissue mountains, but if you continue to work hard and want it badly enough, it will all fall into place. It always does. It reminds me of "Hell Week" in dance and theatre. In the week before the opening show, everything that could possibly go wrong does. Costumes aren't finished, people are forgetting their blocking (placements) and lines. I usually get sick. Watching the rehearsals you'd think the final productions were going to be complete flops. Truth be told, there's a sort of magic that takes place behind the curtains. This magic pulls everything together last minute, and as soon as the curtains are pulled, everything ends up going smoothly. Well that and all of the late nights of rehearsing with bloody feet and charlie horses...but we'll call it magic.

I Did It!

I finally opened up an Etsy Shop!

I have 12 items up so far and I am nervous, but mostly excited about it. I had been thinking about it for 3 years now, but it just took an encouraging, "Just do it!" from Allen for me to take the plunge. The name Lillian Sheik is a combination of my two kitties, Lilly and Sheik. They are my babies, and now this shop is too so I thought it was extremely fitting. I can't wait to add more items and hopefully make a successful thing out of this. Here's the link!

Fluster Busters

My life has been one hectic mess of poop. I am still having terrible sinus gook, I have to figure out my Summer, and I have 3 essays to write and have 4 finals all before next Wednesday. I remember when this used to be such a fun time for me. It used to be: "Yay! Summer is here! 3 months of no school!" Now the tune goes: "Oh god, I have so many finals. What if I can't get a Summer job? I still have to talk to my adviser about Summer classes!" Oof. At least I have Allen and random movies and cuddle breaks. These are what I call my fluster busters. My other fluster busters include taking time out of my day to laugh at cats on Tumblr, taking short walks and playing music. I'm hoping I have at least a fourth of my sanity before next Wednesday. Allen leaves to camp counsel in Alabama for 4 months next Thursday though so that will probably send me into full blown insanity.

On a happy, less stressed note, I bought this 1960's scooter dress/shorts combo at the antique shop last weekend. The owner of the store's face lit up as soon as she saw me, and she quickly went over to the clothes rack and picked it up to show me. It's from the same woman who owned the pink dress I wore in the last post. I definitely had some glances at what I presume was how short the dress was, but little did they know I was wearing shorts underneath! Muahaha! The bracelet is another little number that was passed down to me from my grandmother. It was also her mother's from around the 40's or 50's and it matched the dress perfectly. I actually didn't wear these shoes, I wore my mustard ballet flats, but they broke so I switched mid-day.

Till next time,

Jess
